Pres. Cory Aquino - Born A Winner, Died A Fighter
71
Pres. Corazon Aquino (1933 - 2009)
She's a real fighter...fighting for democracy, fighting for the nation, fighting for her own family, and fighting for her own natural limitation even to the last breath. She is indeed a remarkable fighter, a true hallmark of a Filipino. She is a source of inspiration not only by all Filipinos but of the whole world. No doubt, everyone will admire her and miss her. Former President Cory Aquino will live in our minds...
Fighter For Democracy
Corazon Aquino was married to Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. who was also a fighter for democracy. Since her husband assassination, she began to continue what her husband left - to win democracy. Through a peaceful revolution in 1986 called People Power that toppled Marcos regime, she was propelled to presidency due to people's outcry.
Women in general are perceived to be a symbol of weakness. But she made it to realize that everybody is wrong. She became the first woman president of the Philippines through a popular peaceful uprising. Who will say that in her humble attitude, yellow attire, and soft spoken characteristic lays a great fighter inside? This symbol of weakness is really determined to win democracy and has proven to us and the rest of the world that a fighting spirit is bigger than obstacles and is all what you need to lead a nation to new a dimension. Supporters across the nation rally behind her and they branded this as Cory's magic, a phenomenal, gathering a massive support during the Edsa revolution. She was made a cover of Time Magazine as the WOMAN OF THE YEAR due to her contribution in nation building and winning the Philippines's democracy.
Fighter For The Nation
It has been well-known that the first 100 days of tenure is critical and will determine your success or failure.
Poverty is public enemy number one and among the top of her list. Hailed from a rich family, she lived a very simple life without luxury and has been known to her friends as a person who only changed her eyeglass and wears no expensive ornaments on her body except the wedding ring.
There are so many stories about her kindness, philosophies, and life. In all of these, she has been recalled as good mother, friend, and mentor. A calm person with courage, conviction, and strength of character. She is not only a good political leader but a moral leader with fear of God,I don't know why people only recalled the goodness when she is gone?
For me, she's a fighter, a real fighter of democracy and every plight of the Filipino nation. Raising her hand with a FIGHT (Laban) symbol (L) has been so commemorative to me.
Fighting For Family And For Herself
How do you stand when you are stricken by a crisis?
Being a wife of an assassinated husband due to political foes is for sure not an easy experience. I guess putting our feet in her shoes will make us feel more bad than her children losing their father. But she remains calm and standing.
The love affair scandal brought by her daughter Kris Aquino is a test to her faith but she only showed us how a loving mother should correctly handle the situation by being so forgiving and a loving mother after a natural human reaction for a while.
On March 2008, she was diagnosed to have a COLON CANCER at stage four. Battling for her own life is indeed the last test given to a true fighter. At the end, I believe, she won the hearts of every Filipino by becoming so brave enough till the last breath of her life with a clear missions in mind to inspire her siblings to continue on their own, knowing the fact that life must go on no matter what may happen, and to inspire every Filipino as a mother of a nation to remain standing even in the toughest storm.
I believe in her silent moments, she remains brave and faithful even to the very end, ready to face her Creator. She was given a choice between husband and children, and she's ready to be reunited with her husband according to the story. But how could she tell it to her children who are expecting the opposite things plus the people praying for her? So she holds on for a while, fighting this time not for herself but for the sake of people loving her. She remains strong and faithful for what she believes... for what she stands for, not for herself but for her nation and for her family.
She died on August 1, 2009 at the age of 76 but she left her great legacies that I'm sure will be remember throughout many generations to come.
Corazon Cojuangco Aquino (January 25, 1933 - August 1, 2009), a true fighter, a courageous fighter, a Filipino trait that must be taught to every Filipino and around the globe. Indeed, she is a fighter, born a winner.
