The 4 Global Challenges

GLOBAL RECESSION

There is no single time in our human history when we face the most difficult, tough economic situation than what we are facing today - global recession. With the price of oil increasing every day, coupled with mismanagement on big financial institutions, the poor families are the most affected who greatly feels the economic impact brought by this recession. Its domino effect on every country made us realized that this situation is not a joke and should be taken seriously especially not only by leaders of the world but by individuals. Some rescue stimulus packages are in placed in some counties, however, its result remains to be seen. We need to have our own plan, an alternative route, in case the situation gets worse.

GLOBAL OIL DEPLETION

Year 2000 to 2010 is known as peak oil period. Peak oil refers to the maximum production of fossil fuel we are currently using right now to fuel our cars and industries. After reaching the so called peak oil, sooner or later, it will be in a depletion mode and then oil runs out. The depletion zone will not be limited to one drilling place, but in every drilling place of the entire planet because fossil fuel is finite in nature. If governments and world organization will not do something to discover more alternatives source of fuel, then, we are in danger of running out of oil that supplies the main energy of the whole world. This will cause eventually an impact on economy if ever the main source of energy is cut off that runs every industry, cars, and virtually every machines that depends on oil as its main source of energy. In some country, the depletion already started, hence price of oil is very volatile and nobody could guaranty that the price will not go up again due to the laws of supply and demand.

GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE

We are facing the greatest challenge today that makes all countries in the world to unite - to protect our environment, to protect mother earth by stopping all catalyst detrimental to our habitat. Climate is defined as the average pattern of weather in one place. This pattern help us to predict the temperature in one place for example this month or this year, we can say temperature is generally moderate. When this pattern keep on changing abruptly, and the climate doesn't follow the pattern for that season, then, we say there is a climate change. There are several factors that contribute to the climate change; the most common is the greenhouse gas effect. Carbon dioxide is being released to the atmosphere causing a global warming due to human activities such as burning coals, use of fossil fuel or oil, deforestation (which cause carbon dioxide emission), and use of fertilizers and chemicals (which cause nitrous oxide emission), landfills (which cause methane emission, another greenhouse gas). The global warming changes the amount and patterns of rain and snow, frequency and severity of storms, sea level, and in length of growing seasons. Farms, forest, plants and animals, and human will be affected.

GLOBAL OR PANDEMIC SWINE FLU

Another global concern right now is the pandemic swine flu. It becomes pandemic due to a large scale virus infection and we say it is global. There are so many cases recorded around the globe in almost every country. The rate of virus infections grows and multiplies each day and the vaccine is yet to be seen. The problem gets worse because the flu might evolve into several variants and we are in a race against time in prevention and cure and in development of its vaccine. Your health depends on you, in your effort, in your awareness. Your health is your own responsibility.

THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT

For every action there is a reaction or similarly, for every cause there is an effect and from every effect there must have been a cause. I am sure, every one is responsible for whatever is happening today in our mother earth. Let us all do our part, give our small contribution for a big result.

I found this hub to be thought provoking and worthy of contemplation. It's a mind-opening one to the actual facts and really we need to participate as human being in creating solutions.

Great article: I agree we all need to do our part. More needs to be done with alternative renewable fuels.

I agree with the first three and I believe there are others. Pandemeics can be a global concern but I think the H1N1 flu virus was more of a concern -- it reach global proportions with resulting deaths.

Other major global concerns are water scarity ( due to climate change and overusage by agriculture, industry and urbanization), destruction of habitats and invasion of alien species resulting in the decimation of life forms everywhere. large disaprity between the poor and rich (related to the economic crisis) and famine.

Sorry about the messenger of bad news but burying our heads in the sand and ignoring it is not the answer. We must act as a global community and have a strong leadership before it is too late.
